Ahhhh, Christmas. The traditions, the cookies, the masses of photographers offering discounted photo shoots that fall completely flat and fail to live up to expectations. Well, at least two of those things are amazing, huh?
Every year I consider whether or not to offer Mini Sessions, and every year I come to the same conclusion: I just can’t because my clients are worth more than that. To explain what I mean, I would like to share part of a recent email I sent out:
Unlike many photographers, we do not run seasonal “mini sessions” because I believe in developing a lasting relationship with my clients and those short mini photo shoots just are not long enough for us to create images that are a true representation of who you are. We do, however, have really fantastic packages that are customizable for about the same price. (Stay with me here, this is where it gets good!)
So often I see photographers shooting quick little mini sessions, cramming tons of people into 15 minute blocks, then sending over a few digital files and leaving the rest of the work to the client…and then those beautiful photographs just sit on a computer hard drive or they get buried in a Facebook timeline, only to be forgotten. Instead, let’s treat your photo shoot like the big deal that it is! After all, you are investing in your legacy, and I am incredibly honored to be a part of that. It is my job to ensure that your style and needs are met, so I approach this process a little differently. Choosing the right package is about so much more than just pricing, so I always encourage clients to think about how they want to use their portraits first, then choose the option that fits in that vision. Are you looking to fill your home with beautiful framed prints or canvases? Or is an album more your style? (We love creating a yearly album for our clients so they can enjoy those memories year after year and see how their family changes!) If social media sharing is at the top of your must have list, we offer watermarked copies of your online gallery that are free to use, digital image packages for purchase, and for all photos that are included in an album or printed size 11×14 and larger, we send you the digital copy for free as our gift to you.
Each of our package options are customizable, so you can order exactly what you want without paying for anything you don’t. It all starts with the length of your session. For albums and large galleries for printing, we recommend a 1-hour session. This will give you tons of options and variety in your gallery, and we can even include 2 outfits to really mix things up! If you are just looking for a few great portraits for printing and sharing, a 30-minute session is perfect. It is just enough time for us to get comfortable, work through a few poses, and have lots of fun. The 2-hour session is for clients who want to make the absolute best of our time together and it allows us the time to change multiple locations and wardrobe. If you are the type who has portraits done just once a year, or you have several locations that are important to you, this is the one I recommend!
Once we have had our fun in front of the camera, I will take all of your gorgeous images and edit the very best of the best. We will then meet in person to view your portrait story (this is the best part!), and since we already know how you will be using your images we can go through and select your favorites and quickly curate an incredible gallery that is everything you dreamed of!
Whew! I know that is a lot to think about, but I want to make absolutely sure that this is the very best experience you have ever had with a photographer, and that all starts with understanding your needs and your vision for this important day. I understand how much time, work, and love goes into planning for your photo shoot, and I am delighted to be a part of that excitement! If there are any questions I can answer for you please let me know, and when you are ready to get started call the Studio or send an email/text with a few dates that work for you.
